KINDERGARDEN - GRADE 4
Thank you for considering educating your child/children at Zoma School. Children learn basic education through hands-on teaching methods. We Believe that all regardless of their differences are talented.
OUR INSPIRATION COMES FROM DIFFERENT SUCCESSFUL PIONEER EDUCATORS INCLUDING:
- From Alice Waters’ EDIBLE SCHOOLYARD, our children learn math, general science, language, art, physical exercise and sign language through gardening and cooking.
- From Maria Montessorie, MONTESSORI SCHOOL, our children thrive through mixed age classrooms where different aged children learn in one classroom.
- From Ethiopia’s Kes Timhert Bet, our younger children learn to read from their older children.
OUR UNIQUE EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS INCLUDE:
- Gardening: Our students plant seeds and learn the details of the growing process by measuring, analyzing and documenting all the steps.
- Cooking: Our students learn basic education while preparing, cooking, tasting and smelling healthy food in a child friendly kitchen.
- Milking: Our students milk the cows in our barn and learn how to make yogurt, butter, cottage cheese and other milk products.
- Art: Art is integrated in all our educational programs. It helps our children develop aesthetics through color mixing.
- Sign language: Our students learn how to sign from a deaf and mute teacher. Sign language improves small motor skills because of the dexterity required for communicating with hand gestures. It also helps children to communicate with other languages.
- Unicycling: Our students learn how to ride the unicycle without help from adults. Unicycling builds self-confidence to overcome difficult tasks.
COVID 19
We take Covid 19 very seriously. We will regularly disinfect our compound and all the items in all the classrooms. The following steps are mandatory, therefore, we expect parents to follow them:
- Students ratio: 15 is the maximum number of students for each classroom.
- Chairs and tables: 1 table and 1 chair will be assigned for each student.
- Classrooms: Our classrooms will be filled at reduced capacity and each student will have an individual table.
- Facemasks: Our students are expected to wear a mask when they arrive at school. Once they arrive, they will be provided with clean and sanitized masks. 2 or more of these masks will be purchased by Parents/Guardians at the school office. The masks will remain at the school through the school year.
- Smock Pullover and Hat: This year, the school uniform will be synthetic smock pullovers and hats. 2 or more of each item will be purchased by Parents/Guardians at the school office. They will remain at the school through the school year.
- Handwashing: Water and soap will be at the gate and students will wash their hands prior to entering the school compound.
- Disinfecting shoe soles: At the entrance, there will be wet mats with disinfectants for students to rub their shoe soles.
- Temperature: We will take our students temperature at arrival and during recess and lunch breaks. Any child with high temperature will be immediately isolated in a child friendly environment and parents will be contacted for pickup.
