METAMORPHOSIS

In 2006, the Ambassador to the European Commission in Ethiopia, HE Tim Clark asked Meskerem Assegued to come up with public art concept for the Europe Day celebration in Addis Ababa. She then told him that a public mosaic representing uncelebrated creatures who contribute a great deal to the eco system. Elias Sime was commissioned to create it and he made a large mosaic of caterpillar with cocoon and butferflies, the Nile crocodile, a hatching turtle, a resting porcupine and a frog eating a fly. High officials from the Ethiopian government including Mayor of Addis Ababa, HE Brehanu Deressa,  and HE Seyum Mesfin as well as President of the European Commission HE José Manuel Barroso came to inaugurate it on May 9, 2006.
