DAVID HAMMONS
(DIVINE LIGHT)
David Hammons is a conceptual artists, a painter, sculptor, curator, conceptual and author He is one of the most famous and influential artists of our time. David lives and works in New York. His art is collected by major museums such as the Museum of Modern Arts, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Californian African American Museum, Tate Modern and many others. In November 2002, David exhibited CONSERTO IN BLACK AND BLUE in Ace Gallery, New York. This exhibition took place in large dark rooms, where the audience was given small flashlights to experience the moment.
Meskerem Assegued met David while she was attending the African Museum Professionals and Curators workshop at the Museum of Modern Art in NY. She then invited him to come and do exhibition in Ethiopia which he accepted. In October 2003, David came to Zoma Contemporary Art Center, which was his first trip to Africa. She curated DIVINE LIGHT, an exhibition similar to CONSERTO IN BLACK AND BLUE at ZCAC on Jara Park. The exhibition opened on October 25, at 4pm. On Thursday, October 23, David lectured about his art at the Addis Ababa University Fine Art and Design School.
